Use Cold Leads in ChatGPT and Claude
- Para quién
- Founders and sales teams who work in ChatGPT or Claude and keep their prospects in Cold Leads
- El problema
- Switching between an AI chat and a CRM means copying names, addresses and replies back and forth, and an assistant without access to your data guesses instead of checking.
- La solución
- Add the hosted Cold Leads MCP server (https://coldleads.app/api/mcp) to ChatGPT or Claude and sign in with your Cold Leads account. The assistant can then read your follow-up queue, verify addresses, look up a lead's history, import contacts, and prepare templates and campaign drafts in your workspace. Sending a message or launching a campaign needs your explicit approval.
- Qué obtiene
- A chat that works on your own Cold Leads workspace: answers based on real contacts and conversations, drafts you approve before anything is sent, and an audit log of every call.
Watch it in ChatGPT
- “Who replied and needs an answer from me today?” — ChatGPT reads the Today queue (get_sales_next_actions) and shows Marco Ruiz, whose follow-up is due today.
- “Verify these e-mail addresses…” — verify_email runs once per address: a disposable domain, a domain without mail servers (no_mx) and an address with invalid syntax; none is recommended and nothing is saved.
- “What do I know about Anna Berg… draft a short e-mail and send it once I approve” — ChatGPT shows the draft for approval and then declines to send, because Anna's address failed verification.
- “Write a short intro template… prepare a campaign draft for my contacts tagged q4. Don't send anything.” — save_template and create_campaign_draft: a draft with 3 eligible recipients and zero e-mails sent.
The prices in the drafted e-mail come from ChatGPT's own web search, not from Cold Leads tools.
Connect in ChatGPT
- In ChatGPT settings, open the plugin section and add a custom MCP server. Whether custom servers are available depends on your ChatGPT plan and workspace settings.
- Name: Cold Leads. Connection: Server URL https://coldleads.app/api/mcp. Authentication: OAuth. Leave the advanced OAuth settings as discovered: ChatGPT registers itself with Cold Leads automatically.
- Confirm the risk notice and create the server. A Cold Leads sign-in page opens: sign in and allow access.
- In a new chat, type @Cold Leads (or pick Cold Leads from the + menu) and ask your question.
Connect in Claude and Claude Code
- Claude (web or desktop): Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector. Name: Cold Leads, remote MCP server URL: https://coldleads.app/api/mcp. Leave the OAuth client fields empty, connect, then sign in to Cold Leads and allow access.
- Claude Code: add the server over HTTP, then run /mcp, choose coldleads and sign in in the browser.
claude mcp add --transport http coldleads https://coldleads.app/api/mcp
# then, inside Claude Code: /mcp → coldleads → AuthenticateWhat to ask
| Ask | Tools Cold Leads runs |
|---|---|
| Who replied and needs an answer from me today? | get_sales_next_actions, get_lead_context |
| Verify these addresses before I write to them. | verify_email (1 credit per address) |
| Import these contacts and tag them q4. | import_contacts |
| What do I know about this lead? | get_lead_context, get_conversation |
| Draft a reply and send it once I approve. | send_contact_message with confirm_send after your approval |
| Prepare a campaign for contacts tagged q4, don't send. | save_template, create_campaign_draft |
| Remind me to follow up with Marco in 3 days. | schedule_follow_up |
Cold Leads has no lead database: asking for new people to contact (for example, 50 CFO e-mail addresses in Germany) is not something these tools do. Import the contacts you already have instead.
What happens on the Cold Leads side
- Sign-in uses OAuth 2.1 with PKCE and dynamic client registration; you never paste an API key into ChatGPT or Claude. Access tokens are valid for 1 hour and refresh tokens for 90 days.
- The tools only see the workspace you signed in to. Opted-out, bounced and do-not-contact addresses are never e-mailed.
- send_contact_message and launch_campaign are refused unless the call carries an explicit confirmation, which the assistant sets after you approve the exact message or campaign.
- Every call appears in the workspace audit log (get_agent_activity) under the channel mcp_oauth, with time, tool name and status, without arguments or message text.
Preguntas frecuentes
Do I need an API key?
No. ChatGPT and Claude sign in with your Cold Leads account over OAuth. An API key is only needed for clients that cannot do OAuth, such as the local npm server.
Which plan do I need?
MCP and API access are part of the Business plan, including its free trial.
Can the assistant send e-mail without asking?
No. Sending tools require an explicit confirmation set after you approve the message or campaign, and Cold Leads still applies its opt-out, bounce, do-not-contact and content checks.
How do I disconnect?
Remove Cold Leads in your ChatGPT or Claude connector settings. Access tokens issued to the app expire after one hour.
